Description
Blowpoke Hanger
Vineyard Firetools’ Blowpoke Hanger is not fancy or complicated. It simply works well.
Design-wise, the rounded top compliments the mouthpiece. And the matching screw mimics the blow-through hole. The two rounded “finger-rests” are slightly canted upward for retention. And the rounded rests provide a wide initial gap to help “funnel” the tool into the cradle. (Note: The tool-space is between .700″ wide (or 18mm).
Blowpoke Hanger for Wall Mounting
Easy to mount. “One-Screw” means you can’t mess up. “One Screw” makes it self-leveling. We recommend drilling a pilot hole (1/8″ drill bit) to make it easy to screw. I mounted our Blowpoke Hanger to the right of our fireplace so it is easy to reach (I’m right-handed.) And it is high enough to easily clear wood stacked on the Hearth.
Later, I added another Blowpoke Hanger on the Left… Balance is Beautiful! And then, another beside the first Blowpoke Hanger… Selection is Fun! These hangers are small and unobtrusive – and they work well. My Blowpokes are handy – easy to reach – and nicely out of the way.
We’ve seen customers use these for all sorts of mountings, including horizontally:
- Two hangers spaced our horizontally.
- Also two wood or “nailed” pegs.
- Even upside-down mounting works!
- Most people want to mount it low.
- But higher mounting makes it easier for the poker tip to clear something low and in the way.
Mounting the Blowpoke Hanger lower on the wall might make it a bit more difficult to use – as you have to navigate the poker tip up-and-over from behind whatever is on the floor there. The same goes for re-hanging it.
Mounting a little higher on the wall makes it more accessible. – Easier to grab and go. And you’ll find that it’s so easy to hang-up even when you’re holding it at the mid-point. That’s because our blowpoke’s lighter weight is so much easier to handle. It is not heavy to hold out with your arm extended – as heavier pokes can feel. You simply move the blowpoke toward the hanger and it goes right in. Enjoy.
Tips and Tricks:
Normally, I wouldn’t consider Easy in. Easy out to be the “trick” to using our hanger. But compared to some hangers where you “Must lift it straight up – 2 or 3 inches – so the ornate mouthpiece base clears the Surrounding Grippers before it lets go.” Or else you get into a tugging match (which you’re going to loose.) Our easy and simple Blowpoke Hanger simply avoids that complexity and drama.
Enough about hangers. What about LEANING? I also like to lean my blowpokers. And I have a few favorite lean spots on the hearth. But sometimes “Leaners” can fall over. The long tang of our blowpokers “pulls” in that direction – so aim the tang into the lean. Still, sometimes they fall over. I blame Gravity. But gravity just won’t stop pulling! Good hangers provide an better, safe and easy alternative. The “Trick” is to make “Hanging” easier than fussing with “Leaning”. I think you’ll find we’ve done it. Enjoy.
Our Appreciation
Inspiration. Our easy mounting “One-Screw Design” can’t be installed crooked. This good idea came from our dealer, Frank at The Hearthstone in Corona del Mar, CA. Frank recommended just one screw. In fact. he straight out warned us not to use two screws. He said that crooked mountings are a very common complaint with 2-screw and multi-screw hangers. Thanks again, Frank, from all of us.
