Our Top Selling Blow Poke Size Fits Most Fireplaces Better
Starting a wood fire with a good Blow Poke is a game changer. Our Large Blow Poke has the power of Magic! Blow Pokes literally BREATH LIFE into fire. They can quickly turn dying embers into a warm crackling fire. That power and control feels like Magic. And our top selling 41″long Blow Poke fits most fireplaces better.
You may have noticed that many blow pokes look like they are “pinned” together with “found” parts. And they don’t look designed to deliver better performance. Knockoffs using cheap materials result in clumsy and heavy handling. And Nozzle restrictions result in red-faced frustration and disappointment. We believe you can have much better – without having to pay more.
With years of experience fabricating race bikes, we understand the compound advantages of using stronger and lighter materials. And we wondered if we could also add the power to focus a Turbo-AIR FLOW to start and boost fires quickly. That’s sort of the short story behind how we created our strong and long Blow Poke that you can grip and handle with just One Hand.
We tested many different blow poke lengths.
And we tested them with different size fireplaces and fire pits, to hone-in on what works best, and why. We were trying to design the perfect blow poke. And what we found is that most people preferred this Long length. It creates the right distance from the fire. You feel safely back from the flames and sparks. But you are close enough to see very clearly exactly where to blow for the best results.
Better BlowPoker Performance:
- Better AIR-FLOW – Starts fires FASTER – Better Combustion.
- Stronger Steel – Lift and Move 50 Pound Logs.
- Easy Handling – Lighter than other blowpokes.
- Long Reach Poker – Easy with just 1 Hand.
- Useful Poker Tip – not small fins, weird hooks or hammer-heads.
- Best Length for Most Fireplaces.
Together – all the Design Improvements add up – giving you a Blowpoke that WORKS BETTER.
Choose Your Own Blowpoke Size
Everything changed when we understood and admitted to ourselves that Size does matter. And One-Size-Fits-All is a poor strategy for blowpokes, just like almost everything else in life. The “Best Size Blowpoke” is the right Size for your fires.
Just like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, you want the size that fits your fires. Not too long. Not too short. Some fireplaces are bigger. Some are deeper. And some fireplaces are bigger and deeper. So we also offer longer blow poke sizes XL 47″ and XXL 55.
And S 30″ and M 36″ for closer fires: like in your woodstove or any small kindled fire. Campers gravitate toward shorter blow pokes. And we make a different tip for our shorter FireBird blowpokes so that you can benefit from their compact advantages.
Some fire pits can You come to really appreciate the Goldilocks’ fit. The right blow poke size just works better.

Measure for Yourself
Using a Tape Measure – Approach your fireplace, take a knee, and look right at the firewood. Now, pull out the tape so it reaches to the base of the firewood. Use one hand to support the straight tape. And the other hand to hold it by your face. Are you comfortable? Now look at the length of the tape. That’s the best Blow Poke Size for your fireplace!
Choose Your Blow Poke’s Finish
Metallics or High-Temprature Finish – you have a full range of choices. All of our Blow Pokes are prepped and sandblasted to ensure excellent adhesion. We use industrial strength Electrostatic Epoxy Powder Paint – applied magnetically and baked-on. So you get top quality, and tenacious durability.
The finish on our Brass Blowpoker and Nickel BlowPoke are a little different. First, the poker tips receive carefully detailed hand finishing to give you a delightfully polished gift. Then the Chrome-Moly Steel is plated with the 3-step preocess: Copper, Nickel, and Brass to ensures the best results. Whichever you choose, they are all top quality finishes.
- Matte Black is our Top Seller. It’s texture is easy to grip, and matches other black fireplace tooling.
- Antique Iron is a Pewter-like hammered iron. It’s texture is beautifully pocked and attractive.
- Tuscan Rust is rusty without the mess. It has a good grip and an almost sandy texture.
- Polished Brass looks buffed and is lacquered to preserve the brass plated luster and prevent tarnish.
- Hard Nickel is a beautiful silver. It does not tarnish. So it needs no lacquer.
- Brushed Nickel “softens” nickel’s silver look, and is protected with a lacquer clear coat.
Better Blow Pokes make fires much easier to control.
If the fire is flagging, and you want to stoke the flames – aim and blow directly at the base of the fire to “feed the burn”.
A good blowpoker lets you quickly enjoy the really good feeling that warm fires create. Wood fires are so deeply anchored to home and hearth. It’s important to know you have the ability to quickly control a smokey fire. And you have the ability to quickly rescue a dying fire before it goes out. A good blowpoke makes everything better.
Better Blow Poke Handling
If you’ve used other blow pokes, you know they are too heavy to hold with one hand at the hilt. They need two hands. One hand must support it in the middle That means you have to get in much closer to the fire to support the “long poker”. That’s not how it works with our blow pokes. Our stronger steel means you get a lighter, and much handier blow poke.
That’s why we value the light-weight strength of cro-moly steel. Because, if you’re using a regular steel or Brass, you need to use significantly more of it (heavier) to keep it from bending and buckling. Instead, we use stronger steel alloys – so we can use less steel – while improving its strength. Essentially, our tubes have thinner walls, while other sellers’ have thicker walls that are heavier, but their “mild” steel is weaker. That’s what makes our blow pokes lighter, stronger, easier to handle, and more useful.
It feels safer when you can reach out with one hand. It’s really very “Handy”.
Light weight handling is both a safety advantage and a joy to use. You can stand safely back from the fire. Adjust your Logs. And use the WORKING POKER TIP’s two tapered tangs to CREATE BETTER AIR GAPS to improve the air flow and aid combustion. And helps your fires burn Brighter and Warmer.
SPECS:
MADE IN USA. Handmade to work better. Precision fit metal is crafted into an easy handling tool.
MATERIALS are made in the USA. The “Cromoly” tapered tube is custom drawn chrome molybdenum alloy called “4130 cro-moly steel”. The same steel tubes are used to build Baja 1000 race car frames, ATV and motorcycle frames. And it’s the kind of steel tube used to build BMX bikes and custom racing mountain bikes. The Solid Brass Mouthpiece is exceptionally comfortable, and easy-breathing. The Mouthpiece can’t break apart – as others’ do – if it falls over. The Poker Tips are machined from half-inch thick steel and has two tapered tangs. the tapered tangs can slip between your firewood – to open air gaps easily. Air curculation helps your fires burn better. The steel Poker Tip and Tapered Tube are precision fit and plasma welded for uncompromising strength. Guaranteed.
MANUFACTURING: Our production operation is more studio-workshop than factory-production – with all the right tools for cutting and prepping the steel for welding. We laser cut the tip from 1/2 inch thick steel plate – for absolute strength at the tips of the two tapered tangs. We fixture the poker tip on our mill to precisely machine the offset through-hole. The Cro-Moly steel is Plasma Welded with a TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) torch – giving you the strongest steel-fusion bond possible. Before painting, the entire blow poke is sandblasted clean – creating micro pores in the steel that create a micro-texture that anchor the eloctrostatic epoxy paint powder particles before they are thermally fused in a high temp oven. It’s more costly, but the finish is so much more durable and protective compared to wet lacquer finishes. The mouthpiece starts as solid brass. We turn it precisely on the lathe. Then we hand buff it on a big polishing wheel to bring out the full luster of it’s big kisser.
FINISH is a special high-temperature epoxy enamel coating. The epoxy enamel won’t chip, crack, flake or peel. You can eventually wear it off the sharp edges of the poker tip in the fire with prolonged use. The epoxy paint may be industrial strength. But we are talking about an actual “tip of the spear.” And your fireplace is a very extreme environment. The heat of your fireplace doesn’t do any harm to your blow poke’s steel. That steel tip is a half inch thick, and doesn’t even get very hot in normal use since its mass takes pretty long to warm through. This blow poke fireplace tool is made to work all day, every day, all winter, for decades of better fires – and a whole lot of fun.
Best Blow Poke SIZE SUMMARY:
Size only matters every time you use your blow poke.
- If your blowpoke is too long, it’s awkward to handle. Plus it’s heavier. Too long can make it harder to see the best place to blow air and feed the fire. And it will be too long every time you use it.
- If your blowpoke is too short, you’ll find yourself having to lean over into the fire. And maybe feeling to close to bigger, lower kindling fires.
- Get the size that fits your fires. Think of your posture and approach to your fireplace. You want to be comfortable. I prefer to take a knee on the rug, and kneel up comfortably straight.
- Measure from your lips to the low-center of your fire kindling area. Measure while you are in your comfortable kneeling position Measure out and down to the bottom of the fire.
- Test Longer and Shorter lengths to see how you feel to be stoking your fire at that position.
- Remember: Any size blow poke is better than no blow poke.
